}How the calendar works
The Russian work calendar (proizvodstvenny kalendar) shows which days of the year are working days and which are weekends and public holidays, and how many hours have to be worked in a month, a quarter and a year. It has three parts: the list of holidays in Labour Code Art. 112, the annual Government decree that moves days off, and the rule on the shortened pre-holiday day in Art. 95. The hours norm follows one method from Order No. 588n, the same for every work pattern.
Public holidays
Labour Code, Art. 112Fourteen non-working public holidays a year, the same across the country. When a holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, the day off moves to the next working day — except in January.
Transfers
Government decreeJanuary days off that coincide with Saturday and Sunday are moved to other dates by the Government every year. The decree comes out at least a month before the new year.
Shortened day
Labour Code, Art. 95The working day before a holiday is one hour shorter. Before a day off created by a transfer, the day is not shortened.
Hours norm
Order No. 588nDivide the weekly hours by five, multiply by the working days and subtract one hour for every pre-holiday day.
Six-day week
Another patternOn the six-day week only Sunday is a day off, yet the hours norm is the same: it is always calculated on the five-day schedule.
Deadlines
Civil Code, Art. 193When the last day of a deadline falls on a day off, the deadline ends on the next working day. The calendar shows this in “± N days”.
