Frequently asked questions
Drop the image onto the page and a card appears with everything found inside, coordinates included. Keep the flags you want and press «Clean»: the metadata block is rewritten without them. The downloaded file opens as usual and looks identical — the compressed pixels are copied byte for byte. Up to twenty photos at a time, and the «Example» button demonstrates it on our own file.
The shooting location down to the building, the date and time to fractions of a second, the phone or camera model with its lens, the body serial number, the owner name, and sometimes an embedded thumbnail — a small copy of the frame made before you cropped it. The serial number is the worst of them: it links all your photos together, even ones posted anonymously in different places.
No. The file is read, parsed and rebuilt inside your browser; no network request is made while it is processed, and the page keeps working offline after the first load. This matters more than it sounds: most online EXIF removers upload the image to someone else's server first, which is absurd for a privacy tool — you hand the untouched original to the very party you are hiding from.
Not in the default mode: the compressed pixels are copied byte for byte and only the metadata block is rewritten. The second mode re-encodes the image through a canvas, which costs a little quality but guarantees that no stray byte survives anywhere in the container. Use the first one normally and the second for files from a source you do not trust.
Sent «as a photo», most messengers and social networks re-encode the image and the metadata disappears with it. Sent «as a file», it arrives untouched, coordinates included. Do not rely on this: platforms change the behaviour without announcements, which is why the table on this page carries the date when every row was last verified by hand.
The tool re-reads the result with the same parser and reports what survived. Usually that is the orientation tag: without it the photo lands sideways for whoever opens it, so it is always kept. The colour profile stays too unless you tick its flag — without it colours shift on wide-gamut screens. Everything else is removed, and if something is not, the report says so.
