Full years first, then the remainder in months and days — by the calendar, accounting for different month lengths and leap years. This year's birthday counts only once it has passed: the day before turning eighteen a person is still seventeen, and no rounding changes that.

The weekday follows unambiguously from the date. Your next birthday almost always falls on a different weekday: a year is one day longer than 52 weeks, and a leap year is two.

The western sign comes from the day and month; boundary dates differ by a day between sources, and such dates are flagged. The Chinese sign follows the lunar year, which begins between 21 January and 21 February rather than on 1 January.
